Curriculum materials

TechnoKids

Whether you are a a school or an after-school learning centre, the TechnoKids Computer Curriculum can be adapted to your needs.  It can be used as standalone, complementary, or enhancement programs to the core curriculum of the school.

For standalone usage, projects are selected to be used in computer classes, without linking into any of the core curriculum topics.  These projects can also be used for Computer clubs or after-school programs in a similar manner.

Schools can also make use of the TechnoKids Computer Curriculum to complement the core curriculum in computer classes.  By coordinating the timing of running certain projects in the computer class with the time the topic is taught in the core academic classes, students can gain better insight in the application of technology in a meaningful way.  Since the TechnoKids Computer Curriculum was developed using age appropriate topics, it is easy to find projects to fit easily your school’s core curriculum.

The TechnoKids Computer Curriculum can also be used to enhance the core curriculum subject areas by being incorporated into the core academic lessons.  This provides added value to those classes, both to the teacher and the students.  The subject teacher can easily integrate a TechnoKids project that relates to into his or her class directly, at the same time teaching the core subject as well as computing skills.  This methodology is very useful for a school where full integration in subject areas is targeted.

Core Computer Curriculum

When the TechnoKids Computer Curriculum is used in the computer classes, the IT teacher can choose to use the projects as standalone topics, or as a complement to other core subject areas.

If you plan to teach the TechnoKids Computer Curriculum as standalone topics, you are free to choose any project  based on your interests, your students’ interests, or any specific technology skills you are interested in teaching.  You are not locked into teaching every project or in their recommended order, as described in the Project Matrix (can be downloaded from our corporate website).

If the intention is to complement computer classes with the core academic topics, the projects should be selected with the participation of the subject teachers.  This ensures accurate timing of the projects to be in line with the subject being taught in the academic sessions.

For schools where technology integration is already in place, the TechnoKids Computer Curriculum can be brought into the academic classrooms.  The subject teacher should select projects that fit into the core academic topics, and use them as enhancements to the lessons, or as an extension to further the study on the topics.

Whichever method you choose to implement the TechnoKids Computer Curriculum, it will certainly provide your students with a solid base of knowledge in computing skills.  We would be happy to sit with you to discuss the best way forward, and to help you in the selection of projects.

After-school Activities and Computer Clubs at Schools

Schools can choose to use the TechnoKids Computer Curriculum as an after-school program or in Computer Club activities.

TechnoKids Hong Kong offers two options for schools.  First, the school can simply choose to purchase annual site licenses and have the teachers teach the projects in these extra-curricula programs; or, second, TechnoKids Hong Kong can supply the projects and the resources to teach them.  We can even assist with the setting up of the computer club if your school does not have one yet.

For schools wishing to run the after-school programs or computer clubs in English, all our instructors are native English speakers, ensuring there is no communication problems with your students.  We also have instructors who speak Cantonese for schools planning programs in Chinese.  Mandarin speaking instructors will be available at a later date, as we are still actively searching for appropriate teachers.

Pricing

The TechnoKids Computer Curriculum is priced at an affordable level in order that schools do not need major financial investments.  Each project is licensed at a flat rate per site per school year.  A site is defined as a geographical location such as a school campus, college, or university.

Each site license gives the school the right to use the project(s) at a particular site during the subscription year, including the printing of unlimited teacher guides for the staff working at that site.  An unlimited number of student workbooks can also be printed, for the use by the students at that site.  There is also no limit to the number of students that can use the curriculum, or the number of computers where the resource files can be installed on the particular site.

If you wish to use the curriculum at more than one location, you must purchase multiple site licenses.  Attractive volume discounts are available for multi-sites and multi-projects subscriptions.
